Yesterday Barbarella released a brand new track: I am the Wolf. This new track is one of our new songs that will appear on our expected first full length album that will see the daylight coming fall.

I am the Wolf was recorded last march at BigMouth Recordingstudio, Nijmegen and was mixed by Mister Guido Allbers and mastered by Darius van Helfteren at Amsterdam Mastering.

This track will be used for promotional purposes.

In our last post we mentioned about us spending time at BigMouth Recordingstudio for our new album. Well, we can now proudly say that our first song is finished.
Last week the first track of our new album, 'I am the Wolf' was mixed by mister Guido Aalbers (Miss Montreal, Bertolf). The results are promissing. As we speak the tracks is being mastered at Amsterdam MAstering by Darius van Helfteren. Hopefully it will be finished somewehere this week. The track will be used for promotional purposes. The rest of the albumtracks will be recorded during the next months and we expect to be ready with the album at the end of the summer. A release date is not scheduled yet. We'll keep you posted.

Because of the album recordings Barbarella will be playing a little less this summer. But we'll be playing some festivals anyway. New dates are confirmed. Check our Gig list for more info.

It's been quiet, we know.... We apologize. We've been very busy lately.
To give you some kind of idea what we're up to, here is an update.

Like we mentioned in the latest post, we are making preparations for our first full length album wich we want to release this summer. We've been working on new songs last summer and fall, but we had to finish off some more tracks. We did that in december and by the end of last year we had about 13 new tracks ready. So, with 2 oldies and this new tracks we have 15 songs wich are potential album tracks.

In januari we recorded 13 songs at BigMouth Music recordingstudio as pre-production for the real recordings that will take place during the next few months. We needed to get a better view on the new tracks and get ideas for arrangements, production possibilities and so on. These recordings are being mixed right now and give us also the possibility to let other people in the business hear what great songs we 've written.

So, it might seem al little quiet here, but we're working hard to get back as soon as possible. Better, Harder and a little bit different from what you might be used to.

During this proces the band wil be playing live. Check the section on the right for new dates. Hopefully we'll meet again soon. And keep in touch through Twitter of Facebook for quick updates. Make sure you're a friend!

The Popronde has come to an end. The last city the Popronde went to, and so did we, was Eindhoven. Unfortunately we had to cancel the show in Leiden, the day before Eindhoven, because of sickness in the band. Believe it or not, it was the very first time we had to cancel a gig. Bummer.

But to make a long story short; like all the other places we've played, Eindhoven was fun as well. We can say that the Popronde was good for us during this last two months. Lot's of new friends and fans.
We want to thanks the organisation for this oppertunity.

The coming weeks it will be a little bit quiet on this side. There will be some shows in the beginning of 2010 but in the meanwhile we're concentrating on the production of our new album that we want to release somewhere in the early spring. So we have some writing and pre production ahead of us in december. In january and february we will start recording.

Bad news! DAMN!

Barbarella was invited to open the show for Nebula in Burger-weeshuis, Deventer, The Netherlands on October 8th.
Barbarella was very excited about this special show but due to bandchanges during their USA tour Nebula had to cancel the whole European tour..... They say they will be back soon, but for now our show is in the fridge, so to speak. Luckily Barbarella has quite some shows this fall. Check our giglist for other oppertunities to see Barbarella do her thing.

Barbarella's first EP Neon City is now also available in the US and in Germany. Freebird Records distributed our cd in these countries. We're happy that our German and American friends can buy our EP as well.
In Holland retailers can order Neon City through Bertus distribution. It's on their list....

Barbarella is selected for the traveling Dutch Festival; Popronde 2009.
This means that Barbarella will be playing a lot of live shows this fall.

BUMMER!!!!

The two other bands that would play together with us have cancelled their shows. For that reason LuxorLive decided to cancel the whole showcase. We're promised that Barbarella can come back another time in the near future.

It's a very nice week for Barbarella! After being played on national radio (by Eric Corton on 3voor12 Radio, two nights in a row) Barbarella is also nominated for Live XS Local Hero 2009.

The election for the real Local Hero's 2009 starts on march 27th. Audience, fans, family and friends can vote for Barbarella and if she gets enough votes she can win a lot of support, promotion, gigs (ao: Dauwpop and Eurosonic/Noorderslag) and media attention by Live Music magazine LiveXS and Night Live XS Radio. That's nice.

So, after march 27th, please vote for Barbarella....

Barbarella's first EP is now downloadable at Mininova for free!

Barbarella beleeft mooie tijden. Eind 2008 bracht de band zijn debuut cd 'Neon City' uit. Deze cd en de daarop volgende optredens krijgen enthousiaste reacties. 'Neon City' is onder andere demo van de maand in de eerste Fret van 2009. Om dat te vieren biedt Barbarella de zes nummers van Neon City gratis aan via torrentsite ‘Mininova’. Met als gevolg dat deze in 48 uur al meer dan 3000 keer is gedownload.

'Waarom gratis aanbieden?' is de eerste vraag die opkomt. Maar volgens de band is het een logische stap. ‘We willen onze muziek op zoveel mogelijk plaatsen laten horen,’ zegt Joost Reijnders, bassist van Barbarella, ‘We krijgen erg goede reacties op onze muziek. En met hulp van Mininova krijgt iemand aan het eind van de wereld, of aan het eind van de straat, onze cd in een paar minuten op z'n computer. Dat weegt zwaarder dan een paar centen voor een nummer vragen. Een torrentsite heeft een heel lage drempel. Het moedigt mensen aan de muziek te delen. En als je ziet dat je in 24 uur 2500 mensen bereikt, dan is dat absoluut de moeite waard.'

Hoewel Mininova een groot netwerk heeft, is het niet de enige site waar Barbarella te vinden is. Ook op sites als Bandcamp, Hyves en Myspace kan je ze vinden. En ook daar zijn nummers te downloaden.
'Met alleen Mininova win je de interactive award natuurlijk niet meer,' zegt zanger Jody Peters lachend. Hiermee verwijst hij naar Silence is Sexy, de Nederlandse band die eind 2008 als eerste ging samenwerken met Mininova en daarmee de Interactive Award 2009 won, 'Voor bands als wij, die zonder hulp van grote maatschappijen werken, is dit de manier om je muziek te verspreiden. Het is de manier van de toekomst. Uiteindelijk gaat het ons om zoveel mogelijk op te treden, dan is het gratis aanbieden van onze muziek een investering die zich terugbetaald. En als het publiek echt wil hebben we nog altijd een cd met een mooie hoes te koop.'

In 2005 beginnen Peter Onstein, Joost Reijnders, Remco Verweij en Jody Peters een band die rauwe jaren ’70 rock vermengd met pop, punk en grunge. 'Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll' staat in hun biografie te lezen. Denk aan een kruising van Black Sabbath, Deep Purple en Queens of the Stone Age. Neon City is de eerste cd van Barbarella en deze is zeer goed ontvangen.

Guitarist and founding member Remco has left Barbarella.
We recret his decision but at same time we respect his choice.

Remco will go his own musical direction and in the near future he planned to release some tracks of his own.

Barbarella presenteert debuut CD!

De Nijmeegse stonerrockband Barbarella presenteert op 25 oktober 2008 haar eerste album. De presentatie vindt plaats in Merleyn, Nijmegen en start om 22.30 uur.

Barbarella ontstaat in 2005. In 2006 begint de band met optreden en worden er enkele nummers opgenomen in de BigMouth Studio in Nijmegen, die via Myspace.com zijn te beluisteren. De nummers worden enthousiast ontvangen. Drummer Peter Onstein: 'We kregen na optredens vaak de vraag of we ook cd’s verkochten. Tot nu toe stuurden we mensen naar onze myspace website. Maar uiteindelijk wilden we toch ook iets tastbaars mee kunnen geven. En dat is wat Neon City is geworden. Een soort ‘Het beste’ van de eerste 3 jaar Barbarella. Maar we vinden het te simpel om deze zes nummers alleen op een cd te branden. Een cd moet iets extra’s geven. Daarom hebben we Adriano de Vincentiis gevraagd een hoes voor onze cd te tekenen. Hij is striptekenaar en heeft voor ons een mooi sexy ontwerp gemaakt. De tekening past perfect bij het jaren ’60/’70 gevoel die de muziek en de naam Barbarella uitstralen. Toch leuker dan een gebrande cd, denken we!'

Op dit moment gaat veel aandacht uit naar de cd. Toch is Barbarella het optreden niet vergeten. Gitarist Remco Verweij: 'Natuurlijk is het belangrijk om jezelf te promoten door bijvoorbeeld te zorgen voor een mooie cd, T-shirts enzovoort. Daar hebben we nu veel tijd aan besteed. Maar live optreden staat bij ons onbedreigd op de éérste plaats! Dat is waarom we een band zijn begonnen!'

De Nijmeegse stonerrockband Barbarella ontstaat in 2005 nadat de oude band van Peter Onstein en bassist Joost Reijnders, Scotty!, uiteen valt. Joost Reijnders: 'Peter en ik waren op zoek naar iets nieuws toen Remco liet weten dat hij graag een nieuwe band wilde beginnen. Daar hoefden wij niet lang over na te denken. Het duurde even voordat we Jody Peters gevonden hadden. Met hem erbij klikte het helemaal. Toen konden we verder met het ontwikkelen van ons eigen geluid: een soort rauwe jaren ’70 rock vermengd met punk en grunge. Het klinkt als een kruising van Black Sabbath, Deep Purple en Queens of the Stone Age. Al zullen anderen daar weer een heel andere mening over hebben.'

Barbarella presenteert ‘Neon City’ in Merleyn, Nijmegen. Barbarella heeft Julie Scott als speciale gast uitgenodigd. Zij is vooral bekend van de Arnhemse band Mizpah en van Can_of_ Be. Op 25 oktober treedt ze solo op.
